In August 2022, an action game with roguelike elements titled Cult of the Lamb debuted on PCs and consoles. The game allowed us to take on the role of the titular lamb building its own cult from scratch. It quickly gained recognition from fans and industry media. After some time, the independent studio behind it, Massive Monster, prepared a story expansion titled Woolhaven.

New features in the expansion

Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven introduces a new storyline. At its center is a forgotten sheep goddess named Yngya, who asks for our help in rebuilding her flock and restoring life to the mountain where she resides. Things get complicated when our lamb discovers that the creatures inhabiting the peak and residing in two new dungeons (naturally waiting to be explored) have been corrupted by decay hidden beneath the snow.

New threats

Speaking of snow, the weather conditions on the mountain pose a real threat to us. In addition to powerful blizzards, extremely low temperatures can also lead to our demise. There are also new enemies, including a wolf leading a pack, a dark creature inhabiting the local caves, and finally, ghosts roaming the icy ridges.

Buildings and farming

The expansion also introduces new buildings that allow members of our cult to keep warm. Furthermore, the DLC brings the ability to run a farm where we raise animals that provide wool and warmth, as well as meat that helps us survive the toughest times. We can also ride these animals and use them as mounts.

Technical aspects

Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven is a non-standalone expansion, so it requires the base version of the game Cult of the Lamb.

Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven is an excellent, pricy expansion. I spent over twenty hours, having an absolute blast, learning the secrets of the mountain. If you have an endgame save, then Woolhaven is absolutely worth the cost for fans of the title.

Rectify Gaming: 8 / 10 by Victor Tan

Cult of the Lamb: Woolhaven introduces a new weapon and two new locations to explore, along with new upgrades. Adding ranches, winter, and a new cultist type changes how you manage the flock’s well-being. You can only access Woolhaven after beating the main game, and it’s still difficult to manage. If you're looking for more challenge and fun with Cult of the Lamb, this expansion is definitely worth getting.
