Day of Infamy for PC is a tactical shooter game set during the Second World War. The game was created by New World Interactive and the project had its roots in a small modification for Insurgency, developed by the same team. The said mod was well-received, thus the creators decided to extend it to a size of a commercial product, adding different improvements, new maps, weapons and mechanics.
Day of Infamy for PC offers exclusively a multiplayer component. The player observes the action through the eyes of their character. The game allows for competition on beaches in Sicily, Belgian forests covered with snow and other locations typical for this particular military conflict. The gameplay here is based on the main mechanics behind Insurgency. Thus the players received a hardcore tactical shooter valuing the ability to plan and cooperate with teammates more than good reflexes. The game places a large emphasis on realism – one bullet often puts an end to one's life here.
The players are required to complete different objectives, such as taking over the outposts. Each team has a certain number of the so-called reinforcement waves allowing the dead soldiers to respawn and be back in the game. The teams can obtain new waves through completing the objectives. The experience is diversified with an interesting voice chat - if an enemy manages to sneak near the player's position, they can eavesdrop on conversations.
The game adds to the formula of Insurgency by introducing new gameplay elements making Day of Infamy something more than just a modification of the original title. For instance, the player can become an officer. This character is capable of calling in an artillery strike when cooperating with another player having a radio at their disposal (which is balanced through having less effective weapons in such case). Also, the weapons available affect the course of the battle to a large extent, flamethrowers in particular. Interestingly, when hitting a tank of explosive liquid with a smaller bullet, a leak occurs; when hitting it with a larger bullet – the tank can explode.
