Release Date: cancelled
The never-released fourth installment in the cult TPP science fiction survival horror series, conceived by Visceral Games. Dead Space 4 was intended to introduce open-structured sectors and allow us to explore the wrecks of various spaceships.
In 2008, Visceral Games made a significant mark in the history of the survival horror genre by creating Dead Space. Set in an original science fiction universe, this production started a series that, by 2023, included two main installments, a spin-off, and a remake released at that time.
Although the creators had an idea for a fourth installment under this banner, their vision never came to fruition. The sales results of the third game did not meet the publisher's expectations, leading to the brand being shelved and its creators being reassigned to other projects (and ultimately to the disbandment of the entire team).
The foundation of Dead Space 4 was to be the formula developed for the previous installments of the series. We would have received a third-person survival horror game, where we would play as a character fighting for survival in space, in locations overrun by bloodthirsty monsters known as Necromorphs. We would eliminate monsters using a futuristic arsenal.
Dead Space 4 was supposed to introduce a number of new elements. The game would be divided into sectors with an open structure, filled with wrecks of spaceships, between which we would move aboard our small vessel. We would search their decks for fuel and parts needed for the crafting system. Over time, these would allow us to venture deeper into outer space.
Furthermore, the developers planned for opponents to gain the ability to move in zero gravity conditions and hunt us in open space. The equipment crafting and upgrading system known from Dead Space 3 was to be balanced and redesigned in such a way as to reward our experiments.
Dead Space 4 was intended to be a sequel of the third installment of the series. Humanity would be on the brink of extinction, and during the game we would have the opportunity to learn the truth about the origin of the Necromorphs and attempt to save our species. The topic of who was going to be the main character remained open, as the developers were unsure whether to place Isaac Clarke, Carver (known from the "third" installment), or Ellie (the main character's beloved) at the center of events, or to introduce an entirely new protagonist.
