Death's Gambit: Afterlife

Death's Gambit: Afterlife is an enhanced and enriched with new content version of Death's Gambit - a warmly welcomed metroidvania released in 2018. The game was developed by the authors of the original, i.e. White Rabbit studio, and its release was handled by Serenity Forge. Owners of the original version for PC or PlayStation 4 received it as a free update.

Plot

Death's Gambit: Afterlife takes us on a journey to the fantastic kingdom of Siradon. The main character of the game is Sorun, the right hand of Death, and his task is to discover the secret of immortality and deal with the curse that the land is facing.

Mechanics

Death's Gambit: Afterlife is a side-scroller. During the game we explore diverse and vast locations, which create a kind of a powerful labyrinth. Numerous opponents disturb us during the exploration of Siradon. On our way we face both regular enemies and much more powerful bosses. During the clashes we have to show not only agility and reflexes, but also look for gaps in the defense of enemies. Sometimes we face such powerful monsters that to defeat them it is necessary to climb on their bodies and find their weak points. RPG elements complete the game - as we progress we develop our hero, unlocking new skills assigned to specific classes and supplying him with better and better equipment.

Afterlife edition enriches the original with a number of tweaks. The authors improved the control and combat system, significantly expanded the existing levels and prepared ten completely new ones, as well as developed six bosses absent in the original. In addition, navigation is facilitated by a clear map, individual character classes have their own skill trees, and each weapon has at least two new versions. Topping it all off is an extensive crafting system and new enemies waiting to be defeated in New Game Plus mode.

Technical aspects

Death's Gambit: Afterlife does not introduce any changes in the audiovisual layer. The game features pixel art graphics, and the gameplay takes place to the accompaniment of an ambient soundtrack by Kyle Hnedak.
