Degrees of Separation is a platform game enriched with adventure elements. The title was developed by an independent studio Moondrop, and its story layer was supervised by the famous Chris Avellone, whose portfolio includes such titles as Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights 2, Wasteland 2, Prey and Dying Light 2.
The main characters in Degrees of Separation are Ember and Rime, a couple of lovers living in two different worlds; while Ember comes from the land of eternal heat, Rime arrives from a frosty place. Their attempt to meet them ends in a clash of the two dimensions - in order to get closer to each other, they both have to learn to cooperate and use their unique abilities.
In Degrees of Separation the action is shown from the side. During the game, we travel through various locations, each of which has two versions - the frosty one surrounding Rime and the hot one appearing near Ember. This interesting choice was used in designing environmental puzzles, requiring such manipulation of the environment to enable both protagonists to overcome a given obstacle and be on their way.
Although Degrees of Separation enables us to play solo, the game is designed primarily for multiplayer co-op mode. Together with the other player we can play on the Internet or on a shared screen.
Degrees of Separation features two-dimensional visuals with an eye-catching, colourful design reminiscent of animated films.
