Release Date: August 5, 2025
A sequel to the 2021 game, based on the manga under the same title. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 introduces a number of improvements, including the option to perform double finishing blows or equipping characters with items providing them with bonuses.
Kimetsu no Yaiba, known in the West as Demon Slayer, is a manga created by Koyoharu Gotouge in 2016. Given that it quickly gained popularity, we didn't have to wait long for its adaptation into an anime. In 2021, an action game based on it debuted, developed by CyberConnect2 studio, also known for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot or the .hack// series. The game described here, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2, is a sequel of that title.
The gameplay in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 largely relies on the mechanics developed for the first title under this banner. We watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we primarily engage in dynamic duels on three-dimensional arenas.
In the sequel the developers implemented a series of innovations. Among them, the leading ones are the double final attacks, which allow for linking attacks launched by individual characters into combinations. Additionally, an equipment system has been implemented, thanks to which we can supply warriors with items providing them with various bonuses, such as poison resistance or health regeneration.
The so-called "Mastery" deserves a separate mention. Thanks to it, the more time we spend in the skin of a given character, the better we get to know them, increasing their level and unlocking various cosmetic rewards.
We can play Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 alone or in multiplayer mode (locally or over the Internet).
The story mode is available and we once again take on the role of Tanjiro, continuing his story started in the first part of the series. There is also a VS mode, where we take control of over 40 characters (led by the nine Hashira, i.e. elite demon killers) and fight duels devoid of a storyline background.
In addition to this, the developers have prepared training paths, within which we compete with a selected Hashira, going through a series of tournament ladders. The icing on the cake is the mode called The Path of Demon Slayer, thanks to which we can remind ourselves of the most important moments from the first game.
The graphic design of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is maintained in the manga style known from the original.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles 2 review: More of the same
Though not without its faults, Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a visually stunning and faithful follow-up that builds on the original with more characters, polished storytelling, and just enough style to keep Demon Slayer fans hooked.

Nindie Spotlight: 8 / 10 by Justin Nation
While I may not be familiar with any of the anime the game is based around, there is no question that its gameplay is gorgeous, and its storylines are utterly bonkers
Kakuchopurei: 70 / 100 by Jonathan Toyad
Fans of the Demon Slayer anime and manga will definitely want to pick this 3D fighter up, as it recaps the continuing saga of Tanjiro and co. Non-fans can appreciate the colourful graphics and truncated anime plot in the single-player mode, but probably won’t find as much value when compared to your super-fan of the series. At the very least, this cash cow of a title has some merit as it is crafted with love and care courtesy of Cyberconnect 2.
Final Weapon: 3.5 / 5 by Raul Ochoa
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is a good game that covers recent arcs of the Demon Slayer anime with action-packed elements that CyberConnect2 is known for. Although the combat is repetitive, there's a lot of replay value thanks to the included story modes and Training Paths mode. The Hinokami Chronicles 2 isn't a departure from anything CyberConnect2 has developed in the anime gaming space, but the game's beautiful visuals and great voice acting should keep a lot of fans happy.
