Release Date: February 5, 2026
A complex remake of the classic jRPG, originally released in the year 2000. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined features not also greatly refreshed graphics (with 3D models or characters and dioramas), but also reworked story plots and a modernized combat system for a better experience.
Dragon Quest VII is the seventh installment of the cult jRPG series, originally released in 2000. Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined described here was prepared by Square Enix (the publisher overseeing the brand) and Hexadrive (the developer). It is a comprehensive remake of the classic jRPG.
What primarily distinguishes Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined from the original is its three-dimensional graphic design. The developers of the remake prepared dolls based on the characters designed for the original by Akira Toriyama, which they then transformed into three-dimensional models of various heroes. The locations through which the adventure leads us are designed in the style of dioramas.
This is not the end, as the developers also focused on the combat system. The fights are still taking place in turn-based mode, but they have become more dynamic. The creators implemented the ability to change the speed of battles or remove breaks between turns, as well as provided us with the function of automatic battles. The icing on the cake is the ability to defeat weaker enemies with a single blow, without entering battle mode.
We can find the Moonlighting mechanic in the game (allowing us to use two professions at the same time) or the special ability Let Loose, activated when a character's strength is exhausted. There is also a new profession in the remake - Monster Master. Its representatives can summon monsters to the battlefield.
The developers also tackled the way the story is told. The plot, presented in the form of vignettes, has been simplified and restructured in such a way as to be better understood by everyone. Additionally, it was enriched with optional plots and related quests, as well as mini-games. The icing on the cake is the redesigned interface, which has become more user-friendly.
In Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined we watch the action from a bird's eye view.
During the game, we play as a young inhabitant of the Estard island. In the company of his friends, he discovers the Temple of Mysteries, where he learns the mysterious art of time travel. In this way, the adventure begins, during which our protagonist and his entourage will have to face a sinister force and change the fate of the entire world.
The adventure leads us through various locations and eras, such as ancient ruins, lush forests, or powerful metropolises. We explore them, meet the locals and carry out missions, solve environmental puzzles, collect fragments of stone tablets, and also engage in battles with opponents.

Dragon Quest VII – Reimagined, for someone playing it for the first time, is just a by-the-numbers old-fashioned JRPG experience, updated for modern audiences, which at times tires with its repetitiveness, while for those who have tried the original, perhaps nostalgia will touch them a little more.
Quest Daily: 9 / 10 by Ben Veress
"I genuinely believe you couldn't ask for a better remake of a classic title, and can only hope Square Enix looks to the blueprint they've laid out here for other remakes in the future."
Metro GameCentral: 7 / 10 by Nick Gillett
A loving remake of a JRPG classic, with pitch perfect graphics and charming, if simplistic, storytelling and combat.
