Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is the next installment of the shooter series published by D3 Publisher - its development is the responsibility of Yuke, a studio so far known primarily from the subsequent installments of the WWE series.

Story

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain once again enables the players to become a member of the eponymous military unit, which tries to stop the invasion of giant insects - this time the invaders are joined by powerful combat machines. The states united under the banner od EDF are sending their elite soldiers to battle to defy the deadly threat.

Mechanics

In Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain we observe the action from third-person perspective. During the game, we lead a representative of one of several character classes, differentiated in terms of specialization and capabilities on the battlefield. We have at our disposal an extensive arsenal of firearms (machine guns and sniper rifles, laser guns, rocket launchers) and various gadgets (such as grenades) providing us with an advantage in combat. Points earned in exchange for the elimination of giant ants, hornets or spiders can be used to buy various bonuses, which can make our struggle a little easier. The game also sets itself apart with giving us the ability to take control of one of the mechs wreaking havoc in the ranks of enemies.

Game modes

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain can be played solo or with other players, with story missions designed for loners and special stages developed for co-op via the Internet.

Technical aspects

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is introducing a number of changes and improvements to the series - the selection of a new developer has allowed D3 Publisher to thoroughly refresh the series, which is also reflected in the slightly higher quality of visuals.
