In video games, the peaceful construction of idyllic settlements is rarely combined with the exploration of dark underworlds. Among the group of productions where these two ideas of gameplay meet under one "roof" is Emberville, an action RPG developed by independent studio Cygnus Cross.
In Emberville, events are viewed from a bird's eye view. The gameplay differs, depending on what we are dealing with at any given moment. Vitromotus is an underground world created as a prison. Here we find bizarre biomes and even stranger monsters, which are the work of kymia, a secret power born of emotions. It can transform the environment, but at the same time it can bring fallen warriors back to life, making death here not final.
Traversing Vitromotus involves facing numerous opponents. Both regular enemies and powerful bosses stand in our way. Clashes are dynamic, and we eliminate adversaries by using white weapons and their assigned attacks (which vary depending on the weapon wielded) and combining them into effective combinations.
In addition, on the battlefield we make use of active and passive skills. Although they are assigned to specific combat classes, the game allows us to switch between the latter at any time. This allows us to create a character that will be able to emerge unscathed from any oppression.
We create our hero or heroine on our own at the beginning of the adventure (we can decide on the hairstyle, beard or facial features) and develop them as we progress, gaining more powerful skills, as well as acquiring increasingly better equipment. We can produce equipment ourselves, making use of the materials we collect along the way. This is important because the deeper we go into Vitromotus, the more difficult tasks await us and the stronger opponents we encounter.
In Vitromotus we also meet other prisoners. By rescuing them and then completing tasks for them, we gain loyal allies who can share their skills, as well as help rebuild the title settlement.
Rebuilding Emberville represents the second important segment of the game. The settlement regains its inhabitants, who gradually help to rebuild the destroyed houses and populate the place.
We can weave our own nest here, which will serve as our home base. The game allows you to customize the appearance of your home, furnishing and decorating it as you see fit.
The graphic design of the Emberville game was made using the pixel art technique.
