Espire 1: VR Operative is a FPS stealth game. The production was developed by an independent Australian Digital Lode studio and released by Tripwire Interactive, known for its Killing Floor series. The title was created for VR sets.

Plot

Espire 1: VR Operative allows us to play the role of a futuristic Espire Agent. Instead of personally performing the tasks, the protagonist remotely controls the robot sent to the centre of action using the futuristic Control Theatre system.

Mechanics

In Espire 1: VR Operative we observe the action from the first person perspective (FPP). The game consists of missions during which we infiltrate enemy outposts and deal with opponents with a wide range of weapons and gadgets; we use, among other things, a tranquillizer gun or a small spy camera. Although we usually eliminate enemies quietly or sneak behind their backs (nothing stands in the way of distracting them if necessary, for example by throwing an empty magazine), from time to time we also have to face them in an open fight.

During the game we have full freedom of movement - we can hide behind covers, jump and climb the elements of the environment or interact with them. In order to deal with the car sickness that can manifest itself during play in virtual reality, the authors developed a special system that allows them to switch to the view from the eyes of the hero sitting behind the desk; the image seen by the robot is then visible in a smaller "window" located in the center of the screen.

Game modes

In addition to role-playing missions in the Espire 1: VR Operative individual scenarios are waiting to be checked. Our actions, the time needed to complete a given task, the number of bullets used or how long we remain hidden are evaluated by the scoring system; our achievements can be proud of on the Internet rankings, which is a substitute for multiplayer competition.

Technical aspects

Espire 1: VR Operative has 3D graphics of decent quality. Production requires not only VR goggles, but also motion controllers; in addition, a microphone (and voice) can be used to give commands to the robot or distract adversaries.
