Evergate is an adventure platform game developed by the independent Stone Lantern Games studio. The game was inspired by productions like Child of Light and The NeverEnding Story, and was created thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Plot

Evergate takes players on a journey to the hereafter, where souls get rid of their memories from their previous lives so that they can start their next ones. The heart of each of them is the fire (Soulflame) - the power connecting them with the Source, which, according to legends, is entrusted to them by the deities ruling this world.

The protagonist of the game, a young soul named Ki, decides to regain the memory of past events and unite with her soul mate waiting for her in the depths of the worlds beyond. To do this, she has to travel through a dangerous land and face many obstacles.

Evergate would be much more suited for a younger audience who love to solve puzzles. The story is intriguing, as you would like to guide the protagonist back to earth.

Completexbox: 70 / 100

Here’s where I had to come to terms with myself – I am, simply put, not very good at these sorts of games. I am many things in life: precise under pressure is not normally one of my stronger attributes. I could practice and “git gud”. Experience that sweet sense of accomplishment of overcoming a challenge. But I also had to be honest with myself. I have adult responsibilities and couldn’t dedicate that time to it.

Hey Poor Player: 3.5 / 5 by Heather Johnson Yu

If you are a massive fan of platformers and want something different or if you like puzzle games and haven’t really found that platformer that works for you, I think Evergate might be up your alley.
