Exception is a platform action game developed by an independent developer Will Traxler, operating under the brand of Traxmaster Sofware. The main source of inspiration for the devs were the Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania series.
The action of Exception takes place inside a computer, whose appearance evokes associations with the Tron film series. The machine was infected by an authoritarian virus. The resistance is fighting with him, as do the player.
In Exception we observe the action from the side. The campaign is divided into 128 levels located in sixteen different worlds. The game is distinguished by the fact that the stages are transformed in front of us and the camera changes position freely so that what is currently a ceiling can become a floor or a wall after a while.
When we cross these boards, we not only jump on the platforms and avoid numerous traps but also face hordes of opponents. In our path there are both private, hostile programs and fifteen powerful bosses, who are presented as giant monsters. We eliminate enemies in close combat, and the key to success is to perform evasions, rapid counter-attacks, and combine attacks in spectacular combinations. The set of standard blows is complemented by six special attacks, which we unlock and improve with the use of artifacts gained along the way.
Exception can be played solo, but online rankings are a substitute for multiplayer mode, where we can boast of our achievements.
Visuals of Exception brings to mind the above mentioned film Tron - the shimmering colourful interior of the computer is highlighted by omnipresent neon signs. The fun is accompanied by a catchy synth-wave soundtrack with songs by Kalax and Waveshaper.
