Freedom Planet 2 for PC is a continuation of the warmly-received fast-paced two-dimensional platformer developed by GalaxyTrail.
The story of Freedom Planet 2 revolves around a powerful dragon named Merga who has recently been awakened after a few hundred years of peaceful slumber at the bottom of the ocean. The awakened monster begins to wreak havoc that quickly leads to an outbreak of a great war that will decide upon the future of Avalice.
Once again, we can choose from three heroines that were present in the previous installments of the series. The trio, consisting of Lilac, Carol, and Milla, return as more adult and experienced heroines, who despite their bond are often motivated by different means that see them take different stances regarding the problems at hand.
Freedom Planet 2 for PC is an old-school platformer that focuses on traversing extensive two-dimensional maps and taking care of various opponents in fast-paced action. The campaign was designed as to offer a challenge for both hardcore players that attempt to beat the level in the shortest amount of time possible, as well as casual players focused on gathering all items and discovering secret locations.
As could be expected, the new installment brings a number of changes. Instead of selecting a desired difficulty level, the game introduces special crystals that allow us to modify different gameplay parameters, such as the amount of lives or the hero’s attack power. This system offers the ability to facilitate certain fragments of the game, such as the boss encounters, but requires additional exploration in order to find the required items.
Furthermore, we received the ability to create an energy shield that can block incoming attacks. The heroines can only support it for a short while, which makes the ability a reflex-based comeback against fired projectiles. The new installment also offers a mobile checkpoint system. Instead of repeating the map from the last checkpoint, the player can spend one of his lives to respawn in the same location, which can prove to be useful during lengthy boss encounters.
The initial Freedom Planet had been thoroughly inspired by the titles from Sega Mega Drive game library, including a 16-bit stylized environment. In the case of the new installment, the authors have created a title which uses much more processing power and offers not only higher-definition graphics, but also larger levels and bigger number of opponents and interactive objects.
