GNOG Description
GNOG is an original 3D puzzle game that uses touch interface. The title enables the players to explore the full range of surprises and mysteries to be found in... heads of strange monsters. The title is also distinguished by colorful visuals and support for VR/AR technology. The game was developed by the independent studio KO_OP (in the past they helped Square Enix to work on Lara Croft GO). The publisher was Double Fine (as part of the Double Fine Presents brand).
Mechanics
GNOG is about solving three-dimensional puzzles - we operate various elements of monster heads, rotating them, opening and activating various functions - e.g. switching levers, moving wheels or rotating shelves. When playing we also find collectibles (e.g. coins). We use motion controllers (in case we play VR), gamepads, or a mouse and keyboard to control the game.
It is worth noting, that the first control system offers a more natural way of interacting with the environment and provides a more complete experience. By touching particular parts of the world, we create a variety of effects that enable us to achieve the goal and move on to the next level. Music reacts to our actions as well, changing adequately.
Game modes
GNOG can be played only solo. The mainstay of the game is the single-player mode - the title does not offer any online features.
Technical aspects
GNOG features original high-quality visuals. Their main elements are inspired by real-life toys, hand-drawn, heads of monsters, which have been transferred to a three-dimensional environment. Each of them is different, but all of them are characterized by interesting designs and a very distinctive palette of colors.
The PC version of the game works with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Valve Index goggles. PS4 release is compatible with PlayStation VR goggles and PlayStation Move motion controllers. Edition for iOS devices uses AR technology - in this case, the gameplay is transferred to the real world (e.g. to our table or desk).
