The sequel to an action platforming metroidvania with RPG elements. Grime II has as playing as a Formless, letting us absorb defeated enemies and use their skills against them.
Grime II is an indie action platformer metroidvania with RPG elements. It's the sequel to 2021's Grime, developed by Clover Bite..
Grime II is set in an unknown corner of the previous game's grim fantasy world. We play as a Formless, a form thief, traversing the mysterious land, absorbing defeated enemies to acquire their traits and abilities.
Grime II is a side-scroller. Most of the game consists of fast-paced combat, requiring agility, good reflexes, well-timed parries and counter-attacks. Absorbed enemies also tip the scales in our favor, granting special attacks and abilities. They let us throw weaker enemies, fire projectiles, stun goes and shapeshift. The environment is also important, as there are many interactive objects scattered about we can use to damage enemies; they, however, can use them against us as well. Apart from regular foes, we'll also face powerful bosses.
We'll traverse diverse yet dark locations, jump on platforms, avoid traps and obstacles. Our new forms come in handy while exploring as well, letting us reach inaccessible areas.
Grime II features atmospheric, cartoonish, colorful visuals.

Gaming Boulevard: 7 / 10 by Nick de Reiger
So, to conclude! GRIME II is a fascinating, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately worthwhile experience. It builds on the original in meaningful ways, especially in its gameplay systems and world-building. The mold system, which absorbs enemies and turns them into tools, is a standout mechanic that adds both depth and identity. The world is rich, strange, and consistently intriguing. And the studio behind it clearly understands what makes this universe unique. But it’s not without its flaws. The lack of direct storytelling can make the experience feel distant at times, especially for players who prefer a more guided narrative. The difficulty curve, while not unexpected, can feel uneven. And the grind required for certain upgrades occasionally disrupts the flow. Still, there’s something here that sticks with you. Maybe it’s the atmosphere, maybe it’s the mechanics, or maybe it’s just the sheer commitment to doing something different. Whatever it is, GRIME II earns its place, not as a flawless sequel, but as a bold one.

When it got within reach, I thwomped it with a tooth-lined maul that literally chews on opponents, a ravenous instrument fit for its insatiable wielder. Surprise: The slam caused the ground below to cave in, so down White went, plummeting into a hidden chamber. What a climax.
