A cooperative, puzzle-adventure game with a touch of horror elements. In Haunted Paws, two players can control two puppies (alternatively, one of the puppies may be controlled by AI). The small dogs set out into a spooky mansion filled with skeletons to rescue their owner. They need to work together to overcome various obstacles.
After releasing the twin-stick shooter titled Void Prison, the two-person Lithuanian indie studio LazyFlock began working on their next production. In Haunted Paws we take on the role of a duo of puppies exploring a mansion straight out of horror stories, solving logical puzzles along the way.
The adventure begins with selecting the breeds of the controlled dogs and configuring their appearance. After that, like dog detectives, we must determine what happened to their owner. After deducing that a journalist has been kidnapped, the puppies set off to a mysterious manor full of walking skeletons.
This horror-themed adventure is accompanied by logical puzzles requiring cooperation between both protagonists. An example is driving a car: while one puppy is stationed at the wheel, the other operates the pedals. The barking protagonists of Haunted Paws piece together clues on an investigation board, move heavy crates, or activate mechanisms to reveal secret passages.
While uncovering the secrets of the dark estate, we must watch out for skeletons and beasts. The former tend to gardens, cook meals, clean rooms, and perform other household tasks, and as long as their routine is not disturbed, they remain indifferent to our presence. The latter, however, must be defeated.
Haunted Paws is designed as a cooperative experience (both online or on a shared screen), but the creators have also added a single-player option. In this mode, the second puppy is controlled by the AI.
Reporters investigating the haunted manor in the village of Barkville are disappearing one by one. When the same fate befalls journalist Kira Pawsley, her small dogs set out to rescue her. On site, in addition to walking skeletons, the puppies find clues about the previous owners of the residence, who were supposedly transformed into beasts. To save Kira, the heroes of Haunted Paws must help defeat these creatures and restore their human form. Over time, they discover that a malicious black cat seems to be behind everything.
Haunted Paws was developed using the Unity engine.
