An adventure game set in a depressing atmosphere. 50 kilograms of clay were used during the development of Hlina and that's because the developers recreated clay character models and environment elements. We play as Olli who is taking care of an unemployed mom.
Independent creators often resort to unconventional methods, which they use when developing their works. This was the case with the Polish game Papetura made using paper models. This is also the case with the adventure game titled Hlina, developed by the Czech studio Omnia Ludus, for which the creator used... 50 kilograms of clay to prepare it.
In Hlina we watch the events from a bird's eye view. The game takes us to the titular, gloomy town, the heart of which is a factory. The main character of the game is Ollie, who, after his mom lost her job, tries to take care of her.
During the game we explore a town entirely formed of clay, which is bathed in darkness. We accompany Ollie in his daily life and help him cope with the difficulties he encounters. On the way, we discover various places, and also interact with the environment. The icing on the cake are various mini-games, through which some of the actions performed by Ollie are presented.
At the same time, we must be on guard, as elements of horror have been implemented in the game, and sinister surprises lurk in the dark alleys of Hlina.
The graphic design of Hlina was prepared based on scans of objects made of clay. This applies to both characters and elements of the environment.
