A first-person adventure game representing a grotesque horror genre, made by the creators of Wheels of Aurelia and Saturnalia. In Horses, we find ourselves on a stud farm where people are imprisoned and wear horse masks.
Santa Ragione is an independent Italian development studio known for projects that, while not always appreciated by players, manage to attract attention and stand out from other titles. These include games like Fotonica, Wheels of Aurelia, and Saturnalia. Horses is their adventure game from the horror genre, addressing difficult topics and presenting them in a controversial, even grotesque manner.
In Horses events are viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game takes us to a stable that is home to people wearing horse masks. Over the course of fourteen virtual days spent in this place (equating to 3-4 hours of gameplay), we have the opportunity not only to get to know its inhabitants better but also to test our obedience and composure by performing the quests assigned to us. Over time, we learn more about what is happening on the farm.
In Horses we play as a young man who plans to spend two weeks on the farm to earn some money as a summer job. Upon arrival, the protagonist discovers that very disturbing things are happening, as the horses he is supposed to care for are actually people in horse masks, treated like animals kept on a leash. Our role in what happens on the farm depends on the choices we make.
The graphics of Horses are kept in a monochromatic color scheme.
Santa Ragione's upcoming horror game was banned from Steam, putting the entire studio in jeopardy, but Reddit had no sympathy for them.

Game Ratings for Horses Video Game.
Eurogamer: 4 / 5 by Matt Wales
Santa Ragione delivers a subversive, sometimes shocking, often funny first-person narrative horror that, while perhaps a little insubstantial, remains an engagingly unconventional exploration of some timely themes.
IGN: 7 / 10 by Sarah Thwaites
Horses is an affecting first-person horror game that, despite some repetitive tasks and signposting issues, delivers a harrowing story you won’t forget in a hurry.
Slant Magazine: 4 / 5
And, indeed, the skuzzy and harrowing Horses gains much of its power through its linearity, shepherding you through your own complicity in a cycle of dehumanization with scarcely an option to offer a word of protest. The lack of meaningful choice makes the very act of playing the game feel practically unbearable, what with players themselves being led forward like animals.
