Saturnalia

Saturnalia is a detective adventure TPP game in the convention of survival horror. The creators also decided to borrow elements characteristic of the roguelite subgenre. This is a project of the Milan-based independent studio Santa Ragione.

Plot

The action of Saturnalia takes place on 21 December 1989 on the island of Sardinia in an isolated village where a mysterious ancient ritual took place and its inhabitants disappear in an unexplained way. The goal of the heroes is to survive and investigate the disturbing events.

Mechanics

The game consists of exploring the narrow streets of the Italian village, whose appearance changes with each subsequent game, solving puzzles and, above all, survival and proper management of the limited resources of valuable matches. If one character dies, the player takes control of the other. When they all die, the adventure ends definitively. The game is non-linear and the gameplay changes from the narrative side depending on the progress.

Technical aspects

Saturnalia is characterized by an unusual, quite original visual setting. The tension that grows during the game is also built up by the disturbing soundtrack and even claustrophobic streets of the village.
