During the game we take on the role of a humanoid robot equipped with a staff, whose task is to escape from an underground megastructure. Throughout this short adventure, the protagonist uncovers the secrets of the facility, meets other machines and helps them solve their problems, and faces various challenges.

They jumping across platforms and overcoming terrain obstacles, as well as using a curved stick to perform pole vaults, hook onto environmental elements, and pull up or swing over chasms.
The graphics of Hypogea are designed in a retro style, reminiscent of games from the early 21st century. The story is conveyed without words, through pantomime and environmental storytelling.
