A refreshed version of Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony, a side-scroller taking place in an unusual setting. We are taken to an alternative version of 17th century, in which the Spanish, British, and Martian forces clash in a fight for the right to colonize Mars. The player assumes control over a small vessel that is tasked with the elimination of hordes of enemies that appear along the way.
Jamestown Plus for PS4 is an updated version and a console port of Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony, an old-school side scroller that takes place in an alternative version of the 17th century. The initial version of the game received an exclusive PC release, while a console edition (presented here) followed three years later. The game sees us assume control over a small spaceship fighting against hundreds of enemies battling for the control of Mars. The PS4 port does not differ much from the original game, yet Final Form Games decided to introduce various updates and fixes, as well as a number of new ships with unique armament and special attacks. Moreover, we’ve received a new chapter of the story, which aside from new levels offers a summary of the events seen in the original game.
The plot of the game tells an abstract story that takes place in an alternative dimension in which the 17th century’s superpowers engage in colonization of Mars. The gain the control over the planet sees English, Spanish, and Martian forces take part in intense airborne battles. While the idea seems to be a bit out there, the setting offers a background to numerous entertaining battles.
The gameplay of Jamestown Plus is pretty much the same as in the original game – we are left with a two-dimensional side-scroller with action seen from a top-down perspective. The game requires dexterity, as the screen is filled with different opponents forcing us to defeat them as quickly as possible and avoid their attacks. The game contains a cooperation mode for up to four players, but we are free to complete the whole campaign on our own.

Game Ratings for Jamestown+ Video Game.
GameCrate: 8.4 / 10 by Robert Workman
It's about time someone came forth with a good "shmup" for this generation of consoles. Final Form Games takes everything good from the original Jamestown and ups the ante with more content and modes, including co-op support that's way more fun than it has every right being. If you're up for a challenge, or just want something different out of your shooters, make your residence in Jamestown.
Pure Nintendo: 6 / 10 by Jennifer Sheffield
Jamestown+ is highly enjoyable for users who appreciate a fast-paced and competitive shoot-em-up. While the game is weighed down a bit by story, and the game doesn't allow for the Joy-Cons to remain connected when the Nintendo Switch is undocked, this title still has something to offer for those looking for an addictive game with a unique setting.

If you are a fan of Shmups buying Jamestown+ is a no brainer. The game looks and plays like a dream. The soundtrack is one of the best you will find and having local multiplayer makes this a joy for folks that like to play games with their friends. I do wish this had online multiplayer since not all of us live close to friends we can easily snag up to play. I played this for around 5 hours and I was able to beat all of the stages the game had to offer, but I could’ve invested a lot more time if I wanted to unlock everything the game had to offer and complete all of the challenges, making it well worth the $17.99 price point. If you’ve been looking for a Shmup to test your skills or just a good game to play with some friends, you really couldn’t go wrong picking this up.
