A mix of an action platformer and a survival game, created by the developers behind Per Aspera. In Kentum, we fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic world set in the year 10,000, gathering resources, building a base, hunting, and eventually automating production processes.
Staying alive in the inhospitable, post-apocalyptic world of the year 10,000 could be a challenge even for seasoned survivalists. Kent, the main character of the game Kentum, does his best to prove that even an average Joe would be able to handle this task. The discussed game is a work by the studio Tlon Industries (which has the game Per Aspera in its portfolio) and is a hybrid of an action platformer and a survival title.
In Kentum we watch the action from the side.
During the game our primary task is to take care of the protagonist's needs. The main character initially obtains food by gathering it in the game world and by hunting the creatures that inhabit it. We must be careful not to become a meal for one of the roaming predators. Over time, however, the ability to build vivariums and breed animals, as well as cultivate the land, is gained. The recipes we collect can be used to prepare meals.
An equally important role is played by acquiring resources used for building and crafting items. We convert the collected bones and wood into charcoal, and we process the gathered waste to obtain metal sheets in this way. Based on this, we gradually repair the broken space module and then enhance it with additional elements, step by step transforming it first into a genuine outpost and eventually into an actual factory.
Resources are also useful to us for crafting. Although initially Joe, who has spent the last few thousand years in cryogenic sleep, is armed only with a stick, over time he acquires increasingly advanced tools and weapons, and consequently also robots at his service (excluding O.R.B., who has been with him from the beginning). Thanks to this, we can face increasingly greater challenges or automate production processes to a greater extent.
Crafting is also a way to expand the range of means of transportation. The game world is filled with jungles, deserts, or abandoned ruins. It can be traversed on foot or with the help of a hoverboard or glider.
Exploration involves not only the need to fight adversaries, but also overcoming platform challenges and cataloging encountered plants and animals. Tackling arcade sections can be improved by using tools such as a grappling hook. The protagonist is a clone, so if he happens to die along the way, he will be resurrected.
The graphic design of Kentum is kept in a comic-book style.
