Indie roguelike called "mine action game" by the developers. In Dome Keeper our task is to defend the base from alien attacks, as well as to dig tunnels under the surface of the planet in order to obtain resources needed, among other things, to upgrade the hero's equipment.
Dome Keeper (previously known as Dome Romantik) is a science fiction roguelike with base defense, underground exploration and resource extraction.
It was developed by indie studio Bippinbits. The two-person team from Germany has set a goal of creating games that evade the classic genre classification. They describe their work as a "mine action game". Dome Keeper is a 2D game made in a pixel art graphic style.
In Dome Keeper offers a story that is only a pretext for the subsequent challenges set by the developers. The hero of the game is an astronaut thrown to one of the inhospitable planets. From then on he has to defend the title dome - the only barrier separating him from enemies.
Dome Keeper is divided into two stages: repelling enemy attacks and mining resources hidden under the planet's surface. Thanks to them, we upgrade the base's defenses and our astronaut's equipment (including a faster jet pack or a more powerful drill). The game also features artifacts that open the way to special solutions, such as an elevator that makes it easier to transport resources.
Moving quickly between the tunnels and the dome is a key aspect of Doom Keeper. Successive waves of monsters invading our base force frequent returns to the surface. During combat, we can use a cannon and a huge sword - it is used for both close-range and long-range combat, thanks to the option to fire the blade.

I ended up really liking Dome Keeper. Its gameplay flow reminded me a lot of Kingdom, another gem also published by Raw Fury. Only this time it’s a bit more lonely as you are just a humble space person alone on a very angry planet. Its mix of mining for resources and defending your base quickly became entertaining, having me return run after run, even if many ended with my dome smashing into little pieces. Unlocked content feels a touch light and defending the base can get a bit overwhelming too early. But that wasn’t enough to cloud over the sheer fun I had playing this sci-fi wonder. If you’re looking for a fresh new roguelike then Dome Keeper comes highly recommended.
