The fifth installment of the popular tower defense series from Ironhide studio. In Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance former enemies have now joined forces to go against a new larger threat and we can use their unique units. We are also allowed to have up to 2 heroes on the battlefield.
Alliance is the fifth main part of the series of tower defense strategy games titled Kingdom Rush. Just like the previous installments, it is set in a fantasy world and maintained in a humorous tone. The production and release of all games from the series is handled by the Uruguayan company Ironhide Game Studio.
According to the principle "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", the forces of the Dark Army and the warriors of Linirei, who fought bloody battles with each other in previous parts of Kingdom Rush, form an unexpected (and not very stable) alliance to face a greater evil.
The basic elements of gameplay do not differ from previous installments and other tower defense type games. We take part in various skirmishes on the campaign map, in which we defend the "base" against hordes of enemy units attacking along designated paths. We observe the action from a bird's eye view in two dimensions.
In each mission we place towers in designated places - they deal damage or produce units that directly attack opponents. As we progress we unlock new buildings, from which we choose a maximum of five in each battle, adjusting the strategy to each level. In this installment of Kingdom Rush towers of both opposing factions that we had the opportunity to control before are now available. They are the Dark Army and Linirea's warriors and it allows for unprecedented combinations. Buildings can be upgraded to increase their combat capabilities.
A characteristic part of the gameplay in the Kingdom Rush series is the hero, a strong and independent unit on the battlefield, separate from the towers. In Alliance we can take not one, but two powerful characters of this type with us on a mission. They can be freely placed on the battlefield. A unique feature of the heroes is that they gain experience during battles and reach higher levels, improving their statistics, as well as providing the player with special spells.
We can complete each mission on a difficulty level of our choosing, with the highest level only becoming available after completing the entire campaign. Additionally, after successfully completing the level, two new gameplay options appear with various difficulty modifiers, such as a reduced number of lives, imposed and limited types of towers, or larger enemy forces. It increases the so-called replayability.
Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance offers single-player content only.
