Plants vs Zombies
Plants vs Zombies

Strategy 05 May 2009

A game belonging to the popular tower defense genre. It's theme, however, is rather unusual, for the players' task is to protect their household against the attacking hordes of zombies. The game was developed by PopCap Games - a company popular for successful arcade-logic games, such as Peggle Deluxe or Bejeweled. In Plants vs Zombies, the levels are made of paths along which the zombies are coming. The player's task is to secure each of those paths. Interestingly, the player's fortification comprises of various plants and flowers growing outside of their house. Each kind of plant has a unique ability. These include things like production the in-game currency, attacking, slowing down the enemies, or exploding in front of them. Zombies are equally diversified - there are many types of attackers, differing in appearance, equipment, and armor. All the subtleties of gameplay are gradually revealed and explained to the players. The game stands out with its atmosphere of comedy, deprived of serious undertones and tension. This was achieved mainly by colorful visuals and a cheerful soundtrack.

The player's goal is to stop the evildoer by leading the armies through new locations: elven forests, magical kingdoms and ruins of an ancient metropolis. The game offers new kinds of towers and units, such as elven archers, mystical mages or stone druids. Also, new improvements, spells and abilities were added along with previously unavailable enemy types. The armies are led by nine legendary characters, and each has unique powers. What has remained unchanged here is the gameplay formula of the predecessors, as well as cartoonish visuals typical of the series.

Strategy 28 July 2011

A tower defense game requiring the player to defend a position against attacking fantasy creatures. The game was created by Ironhide - an independent developer. Kingdom Rush is set in a classic fantasy world filled with magic, orcs, knights and giants. The player's goal is to prevent the enemies from reaching the other side of the map. The attackers come in waves and each one is more powerful than the previous. Elimination of enemies generates income, which can be spent on expanding the line of defense through the addition of new buildings or upgrade of the existing ones. When the situation gets worse, the player can also cast powerful offensive spells capable of stopping or even destroying entire groups of enemies. Completing a level earns the player golden stars, allowing them to upgrade their units or make spells more effective. Kingdom Rush stands out with its eye-pleasing, colorful and detailed visuals.
