Vermon CaTaffy is a ruthless Mongolian terrorist who, in the late 1990s, conquered a small area of South Africa with his brothers and sisters. For safety reasons, the fighter could quietly develop a prototype of a deadly weapon that he called Metal Gear. An American interview, who for a long time looked at CaTaffy's actions, was not able to find out what this tool of annihilation really is. The only thing we managed to establish was that Metal Gear makes it easy to shoot missiles armed with nuclear warheads from any place on Earth. Given the real threat to world peace, the US government has decided to send an agent to South Africa. The choice fell on a man named "Solid Snake", who became famous for his heroic attitude during the fights in Grenada. As you can easily guess, it is you, the player, who will play the role of this soldier. The task is simple: you have to find and destroy the Metal Gear machine before it is used to start an international conflict.

Metal Gear is an action game that at first glance brings associations with classic shooters such as Commando or Ikari Warriors. However, unlike Konami products, they are more focused on surveillance activities, not necessarily manifested by the constant use of weapons. A well-equipped and deadly enemy is better to avoid "quietly" than to enter into an open fight. During the game, Snake may contact the database on the radio, which will inform him about the current mission goals. The terrain you're going to move on is huge, so you'll just need to follow the command's instructions. You will receive additional information when CaTaffy's hostages are released. Although the enemy keeps the prisoners in solid and well-protected bunkers, it is worth trying to reflect them.

Initially, the player is only equipped with bare fists, so it is better to avoid direct contact with the opponent until you find a weapon. The arsenal that Snake can use is rich and includes tools such as the Baretta M92F pistol, the semi-automatic Ingram MAC-11, a grenade launcher and a rocket launcher. You can attach a silencer to some weapons, so that our shots won't immediately alert the entire camp. An important element of the game is also collecting other equipment. A gas mask can save lives in some rooms, just like an oxygen cylinder used for diving.

Metal Gear is a very interesting production, breaking out of the canon of traditional shooting. Unfortunately, the substantive content does not go hand in hand with the performance, which leaves a lot to be desired Despite this, it is worth paying more attention to this program, all the more so as a dozen years later the series has been very popular again.
