Confrontation
Might & Magic SHOWDOWN for PC is a spin-off of the cult RPG series, Might & Magic, which is owned by Ubisoft since its acquirement in 2003. Unlike the series’ full installments, SHOWDOWN is a PvP miniature wargaming that allows the players to create and customize their heroes’ minifigures. It was developed by Fun House, a part of the Ubisoft Montreal studio.
Mechanics
Might & Magic SHOWDOWN focuses maliny on quick, tactical duels that combine elements of strategic planning and real time action, and take place on boards stylized after minifigure wargamings. During the duels, we control a hero, who, like in many MOBA and MMO games, has a set of special abilities that recharge for a period of time after being used. Alongside our hero, we can have up to three monsters, chosen from the pool of creatures available in the game. We cannot control them directly during combat, but we can define their tactis, just like in Final Fantaxy XII or Dragon Age: Origins. As we progress, we unlock more characters and creatures by buying them in the in-game store for the game’s currency.
One of the key elements in Might & Magic SHOWDOWN is that the players can personalize their minifigures: with a virtual brush, we can colour our hero’s tiniest details. And If we do not want to spend much time on that, we can use one of the premade skins.
Misc.
Might & Magic SHOWDOWN for PC offers 30 single player missions. During that campaign, we gradually learn all aspects of gameplay. That campaign, however, was designed to be a training for the online PvP duels between players.
Technical Aspects
Visuals of Might & Magic SHOWDOWN are visibly different than the ones from the series primary games. The game has all the series’ characteristic elements, but was designed to resemble the style of Warhammer minifigure wargaming. Just before the game’s release date, Fun House released Might & Magic SHOWDOWN Paint Workshop, an editor in which the players could design their own minifigure heroes. The game’s launch was accompanied by a contest in which the winning minifigure design was implemented in the game.
