Release Date: April 27, 2018
A dating simulator, in which we court one of the six students of Spooky High and try to succeed before the titular Monster Prom takes place. During the game, we often take part in absurd situations, and the game’s final result largely depends on the decisions we make.
Monster Prom is a dating sim developed by the independent studio Beautiful Glitch.
We arrive in Spooky High where students are preparing for the titular Monster Prom. The party is taking place in three weeks, and many pupils still do not have a partner. Due to the fact that our hero (or heroine) is in the same situation, the mission is to find a date before we run out of time.
Gameplay of Monster Prom begins with the choice of our monster alter ego and picking one of six objects of desire. There are a few potential significant others, such as career-oriented Vera, princess Miranda, Damien born in hell, or the muscular werewolf Scott; each character has their unique preferences and whims which we need to satisfy. Moreover, success also lies in upgrading our statistics (e.g. with items bought in a shop or gained by winning special quizzes). Our knowledge about the monsters and our pick up skills are tested during diverse, often absurd situations. The result of our actions is also determined by the choices we make during the course of the game.
Monster Prom offers a single-player campaign, but nothing stops us from inviting even three other players (via the Internet or hot seat).
The production features 2D, cel-shading visuals.

COGconnected: 69 / 100 by Mario Brash
In the end, Monster Prom's charm stems from its thematic elements. Fantastic interactions, its satirical narrative, and the monster theme offer a unique spin, even if it doesn't deviate all that much from known formulas. But, it does bring a little more to the table, a party for daters who are in it more for the ride than the destination.

While initially charming, I found Monster Prom didn't have the right elements to have any staying power for me. The charming characters, the multiplayer design of the game, and how it tries to engage players outside of the game are all great additions to the dating sim genre. However, the disjointed dialogue, repetitive nature of subsequent attempts, humour, and music all drag Monster Prom down a little too much for me.
Cultured Vultures: 8 / 10 by Leon Othenin-Girard
Monster Prom is fun alone, but even more so in a group, with quirky characters that couldn't be more different from each other to fight over, and it's monstrously hilarious to boot.
