Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams is an action adventure game focusing on exploration. The game is a remake of a text game titled Colossal Cave Adventure, released in 1976. It was developed by Cygnus Entertainment, a studio founded by Ken and Roberta Williams - industry veterans who have made golden records in the history of the genre.
In Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams, players take on the role of a traveler who traverses the title cave in search of hidden treasures. Solving puzzles and facing various opponents, the protagonist tries to find all the valuables and leave the underground labyrinth in one piece.
In Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams, the action is observed from a first-person perspective (FPP). The overarching gameplay element is the exploration of a vast cave system (consisting of fifteen extensive locations) and solving puzzles. As you progress, the puzzles become more and more complicated, but unraveling them all is necessary to get all the treasures hidden in the cave.
In addition, venturing deeper and deeper into the underworld, we encounter its inhabitants, who are not necessarily friendly to us. Among them we find, among others, dwarves and aggressive creatures such as a troll guarding a certain bridge, a bear or a snake.
Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams features colorful and eye-pleasing graphics made in a cartoon style.

Metro GameCentral: 4 / 10
A misguided attempt to recreate one of gaming's oldest and most influential classics, that's let down by outdated visuals and prehistoric gameplay elements.

Colossal Cave isn’t for everyone, but it’s like a slow and meticulously designed theme park ride, all built around an old text adventure game, making for a fascinating experience. Whether you play it or not is probably more up to your personal sensibilities, but Colossal Cave remains an immersive excavation that’s more than worth the trip, even with all the old screws and rusty bolts binding the two periods of game history together.
Slant Magazine: 2 / 5 by Steven Scaife
Perhaps Colossal Cave’s unthinking fealty to the original, and its seeming dismissal of so many of the innovations that might have improved it, could be forgiven if it featured any puzzles or mechanics that would be tough to replicate in a modern design context. But no such innovations are apparent, and new touches like the first-person camera create new problems like making it easy to miss important items in the cave. Colossal Cave, then, can hardly be called a “modernization,” because it would have felt antiquated even if it came out 20 years ago.
