Game mechanics

The action in the game is presented from a first person perspective, with the exception of cutscenes, where the camera changes its position. The gameplay itself follows simple rules: we traverse the available levels and fight hordes of enemies using a rich arsenal (rifles, pistols, crossbows, shotguns and even magic anklets). In Nightmare Reaper there are dozens of weapons and attachments to them, which work differently depending on the circumstances. There are many types of enemies and they appear in hordes, and when we kill them quickly, we gain a combo counter, which determines how many points we get for winning the fight.

Game levels are generated randomly, so that each playthrough is unique, and handmade segments used for generation provide high visual quality. While exploring the locations we can use the map, which we can view at any time and check our position in real time. There are gold points spread over all areas, which also fall out of defeated opponents. Thanks to them we can activate mini-games, referring to other classic games, such as Super Mario Bros. Winning them gives us upgrades, increasing the maximum health of the character, speeding up his movement or giving him additional lives. The gameplay is varied by random events and secrets that require us to perform additional actions and reward us with bonus points. Environment in which we move is partially interactive, allowing us to destroy crates, blow up barrels or move trapdoors.

Technical aspects

The game offers 2.5D graphics referring to retro FPSs, and Andrew Hulshult, who participated in creating the music for Doom Eternal, is responsible for the soundtrack.
