A simulation of life in a cyberpunk metropolis, developed by independent studio Ion Lands - authors of the game Cloudpunk. In Nivalis we start with a modest business like a food stall, and our task is to turn it into a thriving, serious business.
Nivalis is a simulation of life in a cyberpunk metropolis. The game was developed by the independent studio Ion Lands - authors of the very warmly welcomed game Cloudpunk.
Nivalis takes us on a journey to the titular, cyberpunk city, created for the purposes of the studio's previous game. The game allows us to taste life in this metropolis and try to run a thriving business. However, this is not an easy task, because not only it requires a lot of work from us, but also things are complicated by local gangs, whose lust for power and money cannot be satisfied.
Running your own business in Nivalis starts with setting up a small stall selling food, ramen or stimulants. By preparing tasty dishes or serving unique cocktails, we'll start to attract the attention of an increasing number of customers, which will be reflected both in the number of visitors to our business and in the growing number of zeros in our account. We can spend the money we earn on buying new ingredients (although we can grow them ourselves), on various decorations for our house or a completely new flat. However, the goal should be to turn your business into something much more serious, like your own restaurant or nightclub. But to do this, we need more than just money. We are talking about the acquaintances we make by talking to the characters who visit us and learning their stories. In this way, over time we not only gain regular customers but also devoted friends.
The game also allows us to freely roam the city, on foot or by flying HOVA. During breaks from business, we can indulge in fishing, looking after our crops in greenhouses near the docks or simply travelling without a goal. Variable weather conditions and a full day cycle add variety to the exploration.
The graphic design of Nivalis is voxel-based and looks decent and stylish. The overall style is cyberpunk, with colourful neon signs and advertising banners lighting up the darkened streets.

Nivalis Nights is a solid cyberpunk business sim with strong atmosphere, detailed restaurant management, and plenty of side content. Its thin life-sim systems and rough performance keep it from being the complete city-life RPG.

There are things I would like to see improved in Nivalis Nights. The tutorials need more explanation, the map needs to be more useful, and the quest journal and indicators need some work. The romance system could be clearer, fast travel can be inconvenient, and the metro is a nightmare. There are also some glitches and crashes that need a little more polish. None of these issues stopped me from enjoying Nivalis Nights, but they did make some parts of the game harder to navigate than they needed to be. What I really enjoyed is how much there is to do. You run your business while trying to make money, grow ingredients, complete quests, build relationships, and figure out what is happening around you. There is absolutely no way to turn your brain off, but that is also part of what kept me playing. I came into Nivalis Nights expecting a very particular combination of things that I happen to love, but what I didn't expect was how it would enthral me.
