In 2013, the Cornfox & Brothers studio released Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas. The work, inspired by The Legend of Zelda series, was so successful that it gave birth to a series, the development of which was a pillar of its creators' activity for the following years. The Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea described here is the third major entry under this banner, being an action RPG.
In Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea we watch the events from a third-person (TPP) or first-person (FPP) perspective (the latter is new to the series). During the gameplay we traverse the titular Shadow Sea, completing missions that push the plot forward, as well as meeting NPCs and doing side quests for them. The main character has learned a number of new tricks, led by diving and underwater jumping, which improves exploration.
On the protagonist's way stand diversified opponents. We are talking about both serial enemies and ancient Titans acting as bosses.
Clashes with them are dynamic, and during them we use weapons and juggle skills. Abilities are selected from a quick menu or the so-called Skill Drawer, the activation of which stops the action, allowing you to consider further tactics.
In addition, the hero has at his disposal items for strengthening attacks, healing and regenerating stamina. Also important is his companion Gero, who has talents that can change the fate of many a duel.
As you progress, you accumulate Anima and other resources to gradually develop your protagonist. The skill tree is divided into several paths related to both combat and exploration. In addition, we increase the protagonist's potential by supplying him with increasingly better equipment.
Complementing all this are puzzles that require entering into certain interactions with the environment. Solving them is sometimes necessary for the further path to be opened to us. Among the puzzles is the reconstruction of objects, plants and structures, using the so-called Stream of Creation. In addition, the card game Tarock returns.
The action of Oceanhorn 3: Legend of the Shadow Sea takes place a thousand years after the events of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. Here we take on the role of Hero, the only active Red Town Explorer, anointed as Champion of Sol, the goddess of Sol. His task is to traverse the treacherous Sea of Shadow, uncover the secret of the fourth lost god, Xoma, as well as save the land of Arcadia from dark forces and restore it to its former glory.
The protagonist can count on the company of Em, a technopirate linked to the Titans by a personal tragedy, as well as other characters, including returning ones from earlier installments of the series.
