A culinary "simulation" game with roguelite elements, where it's our job to prepare omelets. In Omelet You Cook, we serve up a variety of omelet-style dishes, paying attention to ingredient combinations and meeting the needs of individual customers.
Preparing omelets is not as simple a task as it might seem, and when we are at the mercy of customers and constantly under the watchful eye of our boss, it becomes a real challenge. This is the premise taken by independent developers Dan Schumacher and Hjalte Tagmose, who under the banner of SchuBox Games developed Omelet You Cook - a "cooking simulator" presented in a roguelite style.
In Omelet You Cook we take on the role of chefs, and our task is to prepare omelets. The quality of our dishes is reflected in the number of points earned over successive rounds.
The game provides us with a pool of ingredients from which elements are randomly selected for us to use. Each ingredient has specific bonuses and potential drawbacks that can improve or lower our final score.
For example, broccoli gives us extra points when it touches another vegetable but lowers our score when it comes into contact with meat, while tomatoes should not be in contact with potatoes (though they provide a point boost on their own).
The situation is complicated by the fact that while preparing omelets, we must consider customer requirements and use specific ingredients or combinations. The omelets are small enough that it's impossible to fit all the ingredients on them.
The key to success is finding the optimal arrangement that allows us to achieve the desired point goal, even if we collect a few negative points along the way.
As we make progress, we gather resources that we can allocate to expanding our range of products. As our customers' needs grow over time, the omelets begin to feature increasingly elaborate, and sometimes even absurd, ingredients (whole pineapples and coconuts are just some of them).
The graphic design of Omelet You Cook is maintained in a fully pixelated retro style.
