Order of Battle: Blitzkrieg for PC is an expansion pack for the warmly received Order of Battle: World War II - a game created by a team known as The Aristocrats. Although the base game is free-to-play, players need to pay for the expansion.
In comparison to the base game, the gameplay formula remains unchanged: the game is a turn-based strategy featuring encounters taking place on hexagonal maps. The expansion introduces over 140 units to the game, and those belong not only to the Reich, but also its foes. Above all, the Germans received Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, Bf109 and Fw190 planes, as well as anti-aircraft 88mm cannons. The Allies on the other hand, received both Matilda and Char B1 tanks, the legendary Spitfire fighter plane, but also armored trains.
A story campaign based on historical events is the core element of the game – the player has direct control over the German army. The campaign begins on the territories belonging to Poland, when a battle is fought in Warsaw, but the game also includes the Battle of Dunkirk, or the siege of Moscow. The game offers twelve scenarios in total. The expansion introduces a new system of Specializations – completing certain quests earns the player special points, which can be spent on the titular Specializations, such as Auftragstaktik training for tank drivers or the Waffen SS divisions. As it was the case in previous games, particular units gain experience on the battlefield. Furthermore, the epansion makes it possible to transfer units both between scenarios and entire campaigns.
Order of Battle: Blitzkrieg for PC utilizes the same technology the core game is powered by. No significant changes were introduced to the visuals – the improvements were applied exclusively to the mechanics.
