Order of Battle: Red Star is an add-on to the 2015 turn-based strategy Order of Battle: World War II. The production takes players to several new war theatres: we get the opportunity to conduct battles with the Red Army, which took place in 1938-1941. The title was developed by the authors of the original version, the The Aristocrats studio. The publisher is Slitherine.
The Order of Battle: Red Star campaign begins shortly before the outbreak of World War II, during the Russian-Japanese border conflicts taking place in Manchuria. Then we have the opportunity to take part in the invasion of Poland, the war with Finland and the defence of Russia against German aggression.
The gameplay in the Order of Battle: Red Star is no different than what we know from the basic version of the game. We are still dealing with a turn-based strategy in the classic style, in which we control the troops on a map divided into hexes. The expansion introduces a number of new units to the game - such as BT-7A and KV-1 m1940 tanks or tactical bombers R-10 and Su-2.
During the campaign we take part in many clashes known from the pages of history textbooks, including the the Battle of Lake Khasan (9 July-11 August 1938), the Battle of Grodno (September 1939), the battles of Smolensk (July and August 1941) and the operation "Typhoon" (the battle of Moscow at the turn of 1941-1942).
In the Order of Battle: Red Star we can play alone or with others. The game offers a new feature campaign, as well as units and maps for multiplayer mode. Just like in the basic version of the game, we can play in a four-person hot chair or PBEM++ module. There are several options to choose from, such as last man standing, competition or cooperation.
Order of Battle: Red Star does not introduce any significant changes in the graphics of the basic version of the game. It is worth noting that this is not a stand-alone expansion - it requires a basic version of Order of Battle: World War II to work.
