Release Date: 2026
A compilation of over a thousand Sokoban-style logic puzzles, bound together by a story written by Jonathan Blow - creator of Braid and The Witness. Order of the Sinking Star allows us to freely explore four worlds whose mechanics interconnect to create new challenges.
After designing the famous games Braid and The Witness, Jonathan Blow decided to collaborate with independent creators of logic games in the Sokoban style. Order of the Sinking Star was in development for approximately ten years. It is a collection of over a thousand puzzles of this type, also offering a storyline.
At its core, Order of the Sinking Star is a compilation of grid-based levels. While controlling a single character or multiple characters from a top-down perspective, we must achieve a specific goal, usually reaching an exit. To do this, we need to push or pull objects in the correct sequence.
The game's universe is divided into four fantasy zones with specific rules. For example, one of the zones gives control over variously skilled character classes that can move blocks or swap places with an object or enemy. Another world uses mirrors to create paths using reflection mechanics.
Each puzzle builds on the previous one, introducing new game mechanics. When zones "collide," the puzzle systems intertwine, creating new possibilities. For instance, classes with specific skills begin to operate in the mirror world, and path-creating light beams synergize with tasks involving jumping over stones.
The game has an open structure, allowing us to explore the worlds in any order. The storyline, featuring characters such as a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard, and a talking boat, is revealed through collected notes.
The multicolored graphic design of the Order of the Sinking Star is characterized by distinct outlines of figures and objects.
