Outbound is an adventure game with survival elements, focused on exploration and crafting. It was developed by the independent studio Square Glade Games, which has the game Above Snakes in its portfolio. The creation of this project was made possible partially thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Gameplay

In Outbound we view the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). The game takes us into the near future and allows us to taste the idyllic life on the road. During the journey, our car is our home. We have a choice of different vehicles, including an old camper or an off-roader.

We explore a picturesque, open world, where we can find lush forests, sandy deserts, or even valleys of rushing rivers. We can admire these places at different times of the day and in different weather conditions - from sunny and windy weather to downpours and storms.

Nintendo Life: 7 / 10 by Michelle See-Tho

Outbound is a relaxing journey that will please anyone who wants to get away without going anywhere. Extensive exploration and a satisfying gameplay loop make for a joyful experience, and it's easy to lose hours to driving around in your camper, collecting logs and unlocking new biomes. A few visual and control gripes might form bumps in the road, but otherwise this is a fun ride.

Game8: 70 / 100 by Charlene Sarmiento

Outbound is a cozy exploration game that does well on its basics—exploration, crafting, building—but fails to really keep the magic and entertainment after a few hours due to its taxing gameplay loop that feels like it rewards so little for so much effort. Nevertheless, the game is fun in its own right, although more improvements and changes would make it even more enjoyable for a wider audience.

Checkpoint Gaming: 4 / 10 by Anna Monti

Outbound struggles to justify its own loop. It presents a beautiful, yet empty, isolating space that exists without tension or inscribed drive.
