Paper Trail is a puzzle game with a world made of double-sided pieces of paper. The protagonist, freshman Paige, has the power to fold them in such a way as to create a path for herself to places inaccessible to others.
Paper Trail is a puzzle game with adventure game elements, standing out for its unusual world, created from double-sided sheets of paper, which we manipulate during gameplay. It was developed and published by a small, indie London-based studio Newfangled Games.
Paige, whom we take on the role of, is a freshman and leaves her hometown neighborhood for the first time to reach the University and continue her studies. During her journey, she discovers many new picturesque places and the secrets associated with them, and learns about different people, their stories and wisdom. He moves through the world using her stealth skills and by combining his two sides, which she must expand.
We move through a 2D world made of interconnected double-sided pieces of paper. Using the extraordinary abilities of our heroine, we have to bend them in such a way (from eight sides) to create a path forward. We do this by appropriately connecting paths, moving and rotating their mobile pieces, recreating patterns, or using pressure fields and moving objects. Often this requires multi-step movements and the ability to retrace one's steps back to the starting point.
For the more ambitious, stars are hidden in some nooks and crannies of the maps, the collecting of which requires extra thinking.

Metro GameCentral: 7 / 10 by Nick Gillett
A charmingly illustrated, perspective-shifting puzzle game about paper folding, that has just enough intricacy to keep you engaged without ever making you feel stumped.
Nintendo Life: 9 / 10 by Mitch Vogel
Paper Trail is one of the finest puzzle games you can buy for the Switch right now. The storybook narrative, compelling visuals, and cleverly designed conundrums, all come together to make for a chill and enjoyable experience that you shouldn't miss, and you'd do well to keep an eye on what Newfangled Games does next. We'd give this one a high recommendation to anyone looking for a low-stakes yet sufficiently challenging new addition to their puzzle library.

When you think about it, that’s kind of the inherent pro and con to puzzles, though. Paper Trail benefits a lot from its distinct mechanics, because they help it stand out among a sea of similar games with similar gameplay hooks. But distinct doesn’t always mean approachable, and Paper Trail ends up being quite complex in a lot of ways that could be awesome for one player and super obstructive to another. And that’s fine! The style, which includes the colorful visuals, silly sound direction, genuine writing, and emotive music, all elevate the experience and aid in that sense of approachability. It’s a little too much for me, but I’m mostly a Tetris guy at the end of the day.
