PGA Tour 2K25 is a golf sports simulator belonging to the series that began in 2014 under the name The Golf Club, and was then renamed to PGA Tour after the rights were acquired by 2K Sports. The team behind the development of this production is HB Studios.

Gameplay

The pillar of gameplay in PGA Tour 2K25 is participating in golf matches, during which we embody one of the licensed professionals or a self-created character. TheSixthAxis: 8 / 10 by Nick Petrasiti

While not striking the same feeling of EA's golf games of old, PGA Tour 2K25 is HB Studios' best effort yet. There's enough here to keep you going for a while and if the PGA Tour 2K series continues on this trajectory, might just have the best take on golf games in years to come.

The main pros of the game

  • Gameplay Mechanics: Many users praised the gameplay mechanics, highlighting that the swing mechanics are engaging and provide a satisfying experience. The game is noted for its realistic ball physics and the feeling of hitting a pure shot.
  • Visuals and Presentation: The graphics are generally considered decent, with beautiful course designs and immersive environments that enhance the overall experience.
  • Career Mode Improvements: The career mode has seen enhancements, including a more in-depth character progression system and the introduction of major tournaments, which adds to the overall enjoyment.
  • Difficulty Settings: The game allows players to customize difficulty settings, catering to both casual players and those seeking a more challenging experience.
  • Cross-Platform Multiplayer: Users appreciated the ability to challenge friends across different platforms in both ranked and casual multiplayer modes.

The main cons of the game

  • Aggressive Monetization: A significant number of reviews criticized the game's microtransaction system, stating that it feels predatory. Players must spend in-game currency (VC) to upgrade their characters, which can only be earned at a very slow rate, leading to a "pay-to-win" atmosphere.
  • Limited Customization: Many users expressed frustration over the lack of customization options for clubs and clothing, with only a few outdated items available for purchase.
  • Progression Issues: The slow accumulation of VC needed to upgrade character attributes and unlock content was a common complaint. Users reported needing excessive hours of gameplay or additional real money to access desired upgrades.
  • Technical Issues: Several players experienced stability problems, including laggy menus, frequent crashes, and connection issues that detracted from the overall gaming experience.
  • Lack of Content: Some users noted that the game feels lacking in content compared to previous iterations, with fewer clubs and outdated equipment available.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Customization Options: Users wanted greater variety in equipment and clothing, including the ability to customize individual clubs and access a wider selection of modern gear.
  • Offline Mode: Some players expressed disappointment over the mandatory online connection, which limits the ability to play offline and enjoy the game fully without server dependency.
  • Additional Tournaments: The absence of iconic tournaments like the Masters was noted, with players expecting more comprehensive tournament coverage.
  • Improved Progression System: Users suggested that the game should allow for character upgrades and progression without the heavy reliance on VC, advocating for a more traditional leveling system.

Summary

  • Overall, while PGA TOUR 2K25 offers enjoyable gameplay and improvements over its predecessor, the aggressive monetization strategy and technical issues have overshadowed the positive aspects for many players.
