Pilgrims is a humorous adventure game developed by the Czech studio Amanita Design, known for such games as Machinarium, Botanicula, Chuchel or the Samorost series.

Plot

The action takes place in a fantasy land combining elements of our reality with fairy tales. The game tells the story of a group of heroes, among whom we will find a traveller, a devil and a priest.

Pilgrims has no clearly defined plot. The player is given enormous freedom to shape events and decides how the fate of the characters will unfold.

Mechanics

The title is an adventure game, but very unusual. Instead of solving traditional puzzles, we use cards representing characters and items. We must choose them in such a way as to overcome the difficulties we face.

All problems can be solved with many different sets of cards, and each combination has a very different effect. In this way, we not only overcome challenges, but also pave a path for the plot to progress.

Pilgrims is designed so that the game can be played repeatedly. This is required to unlock all 45 achievements.

Pilgrims offers single-player mode only.

Technical aspects

The strength of Pilgrims is its design. The game offers beautiful two-dimensional graphic design, with unusual visual style and many funny animations. Equally successful is the musical setting, which was composed by the artist known as Floex (creator of soundtracks for Machinarium and Samorost 3). It combines electronic components with instruments such as guitar and clarinet.
