Pokken Tournament DX is an improved version of the Wii U game Pokken Tournament. In terms of gameplay mechanics, the game in topic is not much different from most popular 3D fighting games. Pokken Tournament DX offers over 20 pokemon from both the old and new installments of the main RPG series. Each of them has its own unique fight style and combo attacks. The game introduces one new pokemon that was not available in its 2016 version, Decidueye.
Pokken Tournament DX for SWITCH is an improved version of the Wii U game Pokken Tournament. The game in question offers over 20 pokemon, including one that was previously unavailable, Decidueye. In addition to that, developers introduced two new game modes, Team Battle and Group Match Mode. The game now also has battle replays system – we can record our matches and publish them online. Pokken Tournament DX makes a good use of Switch’s unique functions and allows playing in both the handheld and stationary modes.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, Pokken Tournament DX for SWITCH is not that different from the most popular 3D fighting games. Battles between two competitors take place on closed arenas. Players choose one of the many available pokemon, among which we will find Lucario, Machamp, Suicune, Gardevoir, Pikachu Gengar, Wavile, Charrizard, or Blaziken. All of them have their own unique fighting style and combo attacks. Moreover, after using a specific combination of buttons we can summon another pokemon for a couple of seconds that will aid us in combat. Creatures like Emolga, Fennekin, Snivy, Frogadier, Eevee, Lapras, or Whimsicott can help us with their powerful one-shot attacks.
We can play against the A.I. or other players through local and online multiplayer.
Pokken Tournament DX for SWITCH has high quality and colorful visuals. Both pokemon models and arenas were created with high attention to detail. The game has the same sound effects and soundtrack as the main installments in this jRPG series.

DualShockers: 7.5 / 10 by Tomas Franzese
The Joy-Cons themselves can also be uncomfortable to use and take away from "play with anyone, anywhere" vibe that this game has going for it at face value. If you missed Pokkén Tournament on Wii U and are a fan of fighting games, I highly recommend it, as it is easy to get into and brings some interesting changes to genre. That being said, it really isn't worth double-dipping with Pokkén Tournament DX, as this version doesn't add too much to the core experience outside of a couple new fighters.
Wccftech: 7.5 / 10 by Dave Aubrey
Pokkén Tournament DX is a bit odd, because although I can't help but sing its praises, not much here is new, and I don't actually know who was asking for a resurgence. Still though, the Pokémon fighter is loads of fun and still looks like a great spectacle in motion - the supers just look fantastic. But if you're looking to play this by yourself, you're likely to be very disappointed.
Destructoid: 7.5 / 10 by Nick Valdez
Pokkén Tournament DX won't exactly draw in those who aren't interested in fighting games or who've already played the version released on the Wii U, but it does offer a fun system to fool around with to those waiting for a train or sitting on a toilet or something.
