Poly Bridge for PC is a humoristic logic game developed by a small studio – Dry Cactus, for which the game is the first major project. Even without the necessary experience, the team managed to create a refined and funny production.

Mechanics

Poly Bridge is a title dedicated to fans of puzzles and interesting constructions. Our main task is to create bridges that can be utilized by various vehicles. If we won’t do our job properly, the bridge will collapse, and the driver, along with the passengers, will fall into the water. The initial levels offer rather simple challenges, but soon enough, we will be facing more complicated task. Moreover, our projects cost money, and we have to stay within the budget. All of these problems are complemented by a physics system that forces us to build durable constructions that won’t collapse under their own weight. The task is made easier by an uncomplicated editor that allows us to learn the secrets of the trade before a real task arises.

The main pros of the game

  • Creative Freedom: Players appreciate the ability to design bridges in various ways, allowing for creative solutions to puzzles.
  • Challenging Gameplay: Many users enjoy the difficult levels that require critical thinking and engineering skills, making the game engaging and rewarding.
  • Satisfying Physics: The physics engine provides satisfying interactions, with users finding it enjoyable to see their designs work or fail.
  • Relaxing Atmosphere: The game's graphics and music create a pleasant and calming experience, making it a good pastime.
  • Variety of Tools: Features like the tracing tool and hydraulic cylinders add depth and complexity to bridge-building mechanics.

The main cons of the game

  • Inconsistent Physics: Users frequently report that the physics engine can behave unpredictably, leading to frustration when the same design yields different results on repeated attempts.
  • Complex Controls: The need for multiple key presses to move nodes and beams can make the game cumbersome and less accessible, especially for one-handed play.
  • Steep Difficulty Curve: Many players find that the difficulty ramps up significantly, particularly in later levels, which can lead to frustration and the need for external guides.
  • Limited Replay Value: Once levels are completed, some users feel the game lacks long-term motivation or variety, leading to potential boredom.
  • UI Issues: Some players have experienced problems with the user interface, including resolution issues that obscure important elements.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Better Node Manipulation: Users express a desire for more intuitive controls, such as the ability to connect beams without needing to start from a node.
  • Hints or Guidance: A hint system is suggested for players who get stuck on particularly challenging levels.
  • More Realistic Mechanics: Some players wish for a more realistic approach to bridge-building, as they find certain required designs to be impractical or overly complex.
  • Auto-Triangles and Enhanced Features: Players miss features from newer iterations of the game, such as auto-triangulation and easier manipulation of structures.

Summary

  • Overall, while Poly Bridge is praised for its creativity and satisfying gameplay, it faces criticism for its inconsistent physics, complex controls, and steep difficulty curve, which can detract from the overall experience.
