A metroidvania with action platformer and survival elements. Primal Planet takes us to prehistoric times and we play as a caveman trying to protect his family. In addition to fighting dinosarus we also have to deal with aliens. There's a solo mode and a coop mode in which the second player controls the dino sidekick.
SeethingSwarm is an indie developer, whose creativity was initially limited to single sprites. Nonetheless, the developer finally decided to create his own video game, the result of which is the Primal Planet described here - a metroidvania realized in the form of a platform action game with survival elements.
Primal Planet presents us with an alternative vision of prehistory enriched with elements of science fiction. During the game, we play as a caveman who must defend his family from dinosaurs and mysterious invaders from space.
Watching the action from the side, we explore the wilderness. The adventure leads us through dense forests, mountain peaks, and oceanic depths. The places we visit form something like a vast labyrinth. While exploring them, we jump on platforms, avoid traps and terrain obstacles, and fight the enemies we encounter. From time to time we also have to rely on stealth.
On our way, we encounter dinosaurs (like Apatosaurus or Carnotaurus) and aliens armed with futuristic weapons, with whom we engage in dynamic battles. The protagonist has a primitive weapon on his forearm, topped with a simple stone knife or a spear with a stone tip.
On the way, we gather resources that we can use in the crafting system. Based on this, we create new tools, weapons and baits or traps for enemies, as well as brew various protective and healing potions.
As we progress, we also develop the hero's abilities. All of this makes it worthwhile to return to previously visited locations over time, as thanks to new abilities and tools, we can reach places that were previously inaccessible to us.
Primal Planet can be played alone or in cooperative mode on a shared screen. The second player takes on the role of Sino, a small and agile Sinosauropteryx capable of biting enemies and providing support in solving environmental puzzles.
The graphic design of Primal Planet was done in pixel art technique.
