In 1999, Asheron's Call was released, an MMORPG that has gathered a large number of devoted fans over the years, and has received add-ons and sequels. Among its developers could be found Eric Heimburg and Sandra Powers. Over time, they decided to establish their own company (Elder Game Studios) and prepare a spiritual successor to this work. We are talking about Project: Gorgon, described here.
At the core of Project: Gorgon is the gameplay pattern characteristic of other MMORPGs. So in the course of the game we travel through a fantastic world and explore its nooks and crannies, carry out conversations with NPCs, perform tasks, fight with enemies and develop our character, improving his skills or collecting more and more powerful equipment. Nonetheless, the developers have implemented a number of elements in their work, which set it apart from other games of this type.
First of all, the division into classes was abandoned here, instead allowing the development of specific skills. Thanks to the possibility of pairing the latter, the game, as it were, allows you to create your own professions. Characters can fight with white weapons, make use of combat chemistry (injecting mutagens or creating bombs and golems), tame and train animals to support them in battle (they can breed and sell their young), as well as dabble in necromancy.
In addition, the production is filled with unique systems. For example, shopkeepers gather supplies, making the items sold to them available to players who shop with them. In addition, individual characters are equipped with unique personalities, interests and goals that we can learn about. There is also talk of interactions occurring between different elements (for example, fire can be extinguished with water).
And when we become infected with lycanthropy, we gain the abilities associated with it, but at the same time we have to accept being trapped in the form of a beast at the time of the full moon (the lunar calendar in the game reflects the real one). As druids, we are endowed with the power of nature, but in emergencies (such as a forest fire or a monster invasion) we must rush to its aid.
Project: Gorgon is also distinguished by its extensive community features. In addition to live events, there are opportunities to purchase apartments, run stores and trade stands, leave messages for other players (such as on items or bulletin boards) or distribute your own books and stories, among others. You can also create your own quests and have others do them.
