Project Motor Racing (originally announced as GTRevival) is a car simulator that serves as a spiritual successor of 2 well-known racing series representing this subgenre: GTR and Project CARS. It was developed by the Straight4 Studios team. Ian Bell is at its helm, who greatly contributed to the creation of both brands mentioned above. He started working on Project Motor Racing after leaving Slightly Mad Studios in 2021, which happened shortly after this studio was taken over by Electronic Arts.

Gameplay, cars, tracks

Project Motor Racing places emphasis on realism, going further in this aspect than Project CARS . The creators wanted to provide players with as authentic an experience as possible of racing various cars on famous tracks from around the world (including Bathurst, Monza, Nurburgring, Spa-Francorchamps and Zolder). However, they prepared optional assists for less experienced players.

Project Motor Racing review: A full-price game that feels like Early Access

Project Motor Racing feels like a game in the very early stages of Early Access, rather than a title ready for its 1.0 release.

„You versus your wallet.” Project CARS devs discussed the career mode and announced the release date of their new game, Project Motor Racing

Although Forza Horizon 6 was delayed to 2026 (probably), the second half of 2025 will not be boring at all for racing fans. In the fall, the informal continuation of the Project CARS series - Project Motor Racing - will debut, which will feature an interesting career mode.

Verdict – A Brilliant Sim Trapped in an Unfinished Shell Project Motor Racing is a game of contradictions. Its physics are outstanding, offering one of the most satisfying driving experiences available on Xbox today. Its car classes feel distinct. Its tracks are enjoyable. Its wheel support is impressive. But everything surrounding that driving model — career mode, presentation, accessibility, AI behaviour, achievement design — simply isn’t ready. There is real potential here. With updates, patches, and refinements, PMR could grow into a top-tier sim racing title. But at launch, and after a hefty Patch it’s a game that feels more like a promising foundation than a complete package. For now, Project Motor Racing is a sim with brilliance under the hood, and frustration everywhere else. “Project Motor Racing delivers exceptional driving, but its surrounding systems desperately need work before it can challenge the best on Xbox.”

PPE.pl: 6 / 10 by Maciej Zabłocki

Unfortunately, Project Motor Racing doesn't deliver the expected quality and can't truly compete with Gran Turismo 7, Assetto Corsa, or other simulators on the market. While it doesn't play badly, some of its features are beyond my comprehension. The AI, which runs like it's on rails, is the biggest drawback, but it also lacks more content, a more extensive career, or better graphics on consoles. Although there are no frame drops, we feel a certain dissatisfaction. It's clear the developers still need many updates to get it all right.
