A Swiss development studio based in Zurich. GIANTS Software develops games for PC, consoles, and mobile devices, with its greatest success being the Farming Simulator series. The main installments of the series have been published by Focus Home Interactive since 2012. The situation changed in 2021, when the studio announced it would release Farming Simulator 22 independently.

History

The history of GIANTS Software begins in 2004. Despite this, the company had to wait four long years before releasing its debut project. The game in question is Farming Simulator 2008, later renamed Farming Simulator Classic, and published by astragon Entertainment. The game, which let players experience the life of a farmer, was so successful that it was followed a year later by Farming Simulator 2009, also published by astragon Entertainment.

Not wanting to merely capitalize on their existing brand, the Swiss developers released Demolition Company, allowing players to take on the role of demolition company owners. In 2010, Farming Simulator 2011 debuted, marking the last entry in the series to be published by astragon Entertainment. The two companies continued working together, and in October 2011 released Ski Region Simulator 2012, where players could manage a winter resort.

A fruitful collaboration with Focus Home Interactive

In October 2012, Farming Simulator 2013 was released. As the first installment in the series published by Focus Home Interactive, it served as a kind of "soft reboot" for the company. It first launched on PCs, then came to consoles (as Farming Simulator) and received additional content. In 2014, Farming Simulator 2014, a mobile spin-off of the series, and Farming Simulator 15, its direct sequel, were released on PCs, handheld consoles, smartphones, and tablets.

As time went on, a distinct pattern could be observed in the series' release schedule. The main installments were released every two years, marked by odd numbers in the title, while the even-numbered entries were smaller-scale spin-offs. The major titles were Farming Simulator 17 and Farming Simulator 19, while the smaller spin-offs were Farming Simulator 16, Farming Simulator 18, and Farming Simulator 20, the latter released for the Nintendo Switch. The major entries in the series received extensive post-release support, with developers providing a range of add-ons that introduced new agricultural machinery, crop varieties, and farm animal species.

Independent farmers

In April 2021, GIANTS Software announced the ninth main installment of its flagship series. The game, Farming Simulator 22, launched on PCs and eighth and ninth generation consoles, with the introduction of changing seasons as its standout new feature. Additionally, the studio announced that this would be the first major installment in the series to be self-published since 2012.

Farming Simulator 22 debuted on PC and console platforms in November 2021. The game upheld the high standards of its predecessors and was well received by both players and critics. The next game, Farming Simulator 23, came out in May 2023 on mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. Farming Simulator Kids, a spin-off for younger players, was released in March 2024 on the same platforms.

Fans had to wait until November 12th, 2024, for the announcement of the full-fledged tenth installment of the series, Farming Simulator 25. The game introduced new maps set in Europe, Asia, and America, previously unavailable crops and farm animals, as well as various enhancements to graphics and physics. It was the first project in the series made only for PCs, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
