Ragnarok Odyssey Ace

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, released on PSV and PS3, is a 3D action RPG set in the universe of the popular MMO Ragnarok Online. The producer of the title is a Japanese developer studio Game Arts. Ace is a revised and extended version of the original Ragnarok Odyssey, which debuted on the PS Vita console in 2012. The title was very popular among players, especially fans of the Monster Hunter series. In addition to some changes in gameplay, the game also has the content of all released DLC sets for the basic Ragnarok Odyssey.

The universe of the game is based on Nordic mythology. It contains a lot of mythical beasts, as well as terminology borrowed from the sagas of the Vikings. Many elements associated with Japanese fantasy games have been added to this core. The Eastern aesthetics are also present in the sceneries and character designs.

Mechanics

We start the game by creating our hero, defining their appearance and choosing one of six character classes. Depending on the chosen profession, our character wields a different weapon and has unique special skills, developed along with the acquired experience. Interestingly, after meeting the relevant requirements, the classes can be changed at any time, thus adapting to other players in multiplayer mode. In the new version of the title, heroes can use an additional group of abilities (Ace), assigned to each class. They give players a significant tactical advantage on the battlefield.

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace's gameplay is fast and action-oriented. As in the already mentioned Monster Hunter, players watch the world from a third-person perspective, and their main task is to eliminate enemies living in vast three-dimensional locations. Enemies are both harmless small animals and powerful tens of meters tall bosses, which we can only defeat using all the means available to us. During combat, we use complex combos consisting of several types of attacks. By effectively using this type of tactic, we are rewarded with special cards increasing the hero's skills. Ace edition introduces additional possibilities to modify the character's equipment. We can now change and upgrade the appearance and increase the damage to each weapon we have.

Game modes

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace was created mainly for playing with other players. In multiplayer mode, we can connect via the local network or the Internet. A maximum of four people can take part in one game. We meet others in a location prepared for this purpose. After completing the party and selecting the task, we move directly to the battlefield. The game allows you to play with both PS Vita and PlayStation 3 owners.

Unlike the basic Ragnarok Odyssey, we can also create a party ourselves without having to rely on other live players. Thanks to the mercenary system, we will hire warriors fighting at our side, depending on our needs.

Technical aspects

The graphics design of Ragnarok Odyssey Ace doesn't differ significantly from the one presented in its original version on PS Vita. Although the character models and the world are colorful and can impress from afar, once we get closer, we will see that they lack details and have blurred textures.
