Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition is a refreshed version of the jRPG game, originally released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Both the original and the remaster were developed by Tri-Ace studio, as well as Infinite Undiscovery, Radiata Stories, Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean series.

Plot

The action of the game takes place in the distant future. The ecological catastrophe caused a high increase in the toxicity of the atmosphere, leading to the extinction of almost all living creatures on Earth. The remains of mankind were saved by the construction of a purification system known as Basel, in the form of a giant tower. With time, a multi-storey city was built around it, inhabited by a society in which every newborn person is connected with crystals drawing power from the tower system. This provides resistance to contamination and thus protection against mutations and cancer, but at the same time determines the individual's permanent social status and life expectancy.

The game tells the story of a group of three mercenaries who undertake dangerous tasks for the highest bidder. During one of the orders, they come across a conspiracy of local cardinals, which may lead to the extinction of the entire city.

Mechanics

Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition does not change the content or mechanics of the 2010 original game. We get an extensive Japanese RPG, in which the fun focuses on exploring the world, developing heroes and fulfilling quests.

The game offers an interesting combat system, combining turn-based and arcade elements, which emphasizes the use of firearms. Within a given turn, we direct the characters directly, just like in the exploratory sections, but each action takes a certain amount of time, thus limiting how much we can do within a given turn.

In addition to simple attacks and changing location on the map, mechanics also allows for so-called heroic actions, where the character can quickly move from place to place, perform stunts and attack from the air. During this process, the heroes are immune to damage, and clever use of these moves is the key to winning. For example, an opponent may have a very good defense against frontal attacks, but thanks to a heroic action, we can jump several meters into the air and attack him from above, bypassing his defensive skills. In addition, there is the option of creating special attacks where all three characters attack one opponent at the same time.

Technical aspects

Compared to the original, the biggest changes took place in the graphic design. As the title suggests, Resonance of Fate 4K / HD Edition offers the opportunity to play in high resolution. The game also works more smoothly and offers a sharper image, which generally looks much nicer than the 2010 edition.
