Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm

Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm is another expansion to Risk of Rain 2, the second installment in a series of indie action games by Hopoo Games. This time, it was developed by Gearbox, which until now served as the series' publisher. The DLC was released on the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Plot

The forgotten, locked away ancient Soul is threatening the planet of Petrichor V. Bound and protected by its prison, it was doomed by its own perfection. After millenia, its desperation has created a new entity in the world it lost. The False Son walks Petrichor V, struggling with the burden of his ancestor's betrayal and the corruption of the King's blind ambinations.

Mechanics

Seekers of the Storm expands the base game, focusing on exploration and combat against enemy hordes. In addition to the new antagonist, the expansion also introduces new playable characters, items and at least four new environments.

Game modes

The game supports both singleplayer and online multiplayer, both PvP and co-op.

Only one player in the lobby needs to own the DLC for the rest to access its content. As a trade-off, those who don't own the expansion can't choose the new playable characters or unlock the new content.

Technical aspects

Seekers of the Storm retains the base game's simple, cartoonish artstyle. The locations and designs are 3D, while the interface features 2D ability icons in the bottom-right corner. The game's soundtrack fits the atmosphere very well.
