River City Girls is a spin-off of the beat'em up series Kunio-kun (in the West known as River City), started in 1986. The production was developed by the WayForward Technologies studio, which has in its portfolio such titles as DuckTales Remastered, The Mummy Demastered or Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It was published by Arc System Works.
The main characters of River City Girls are Kyoko and Misako, girls who are well-known to fans of Kunio and Riki. It is the task of the teenagers to save their loved ones who have been kidnapped, but before they do, they will have to face the countless thugs lurking in the streets of River City's title.
In River City Girls, the action was shown from the side. Six vast regions of the city are waiting to be visited, which we travel through, dealing primarily with the elimination of enemy troops. During clashes we block enemy attacks and lead out quick counter-attacks, combine blows in spectacular combinations or finally use powerful special attacks. Girls do not have to fight with bare fists, because they can also use white weapons. Interestingly, by dragging defeated opponents to our site, we can provide additional support.
As we progress, girls gain new levels of experience. In addition, their combat potential can be increased by buying them new equipment or food, which improves their stats or unlocks special skills. It is worth noting that apart from the main tasks, there are also various side missions waiting to be carried out.
River City Girls can be played alone or in local cooperation.
River City Girls has colorful, two-dimensional graphics, which in terms of style refers to the era of sixteen beats. The fun is accompanied by a dynamic, synthpop soundtrack, signed by such artists as Megan McDuffee, Christina Vee and Chipzel.
